Guidelines for Taking Assignments
Some assignments will vary in what options are available during a "Take," however, you can make sure you get full credit for your work by observing the following guidelines:
- Complete and submit the assignment before its Date Due and Time Allowed (not all assignments are timed).
- Some assignments may have an Unavailable Date, which allows additional takes after the due date has passed. Instructors generally set a late penalty, however, for each day that passes after the Due Date.
- If you must leave your computer, do not leave the assignment open and inactive for more than 2 hours. Also, don't open another browser tab or window and "forget" about your homework assignment.
If you leave your computer unattended for too long, the 2 hour session limit might expire, which causes your assignment to be submitted.
- Take advantage of the Check My Work button and feedback options in questions that provide them. Clicking check My Work evaluates your current answer, saves your work, and may give you helpful feedback. This allows you to improve your answer before you submit your assignment for grading.
If there is a limit on the number of check my work clicks you're allowed, this information is displayed adjacent to the button.
Note: The CNOWv2 server automatically saves your work at regular, short intervals; your progress is also saved each time you move to a new question or click Check My Work.
- In assignments that provide it, use the pop-out Contact Technical Support button in the upper right corner to open the Cengage support site in a new browser window.
- In questions with multiple steps, be sure you provide a response in all sections.
- Clicking the Submit button saves your current answer. This action may also open additional content in your question. The Submit button does not submit your assignment for a grade.
- Assignments that permit you to save your progress and finish at a later time have a Save and Exit button. Otherwise, you are required to complete your assignment in one sitting.
- Click the Submit Assignment for Grading button when you are completely finished with the assignment. Each time you submit the assignment for grading is counted as one assignment "take" (Reading assignments cannot be submitted manually).
- For additional assistance your assignment may display buttons along the top of the page for options providing you with information, such as accessing your eBook, turning on Audio, related Exercises, Show Me How videos, Dynamic Exhibits, Hints, and Spreadsheets.
- If the browser crashes or becomes unresponsive and you must force quit your system or browser, you can resume your take if you sign back into CNOWv2 within a few minutes.
- Some assignments may have a prerequisite requiring you to get a certain score on another assignment. Depending on your instructor's settings, it is possible for this assignment to become Not Available again if you do poorly on a retake.
Caution: Do not use your browser's forward, back, close, refresh, or history options; doing this may cause you to lose your latest changes. Only use the provided CengageNOWv2 navigation buttons, and wait for each page to completely load before proceeding.
