Google Chrome Setup for Macs

CengageNOWv2 supports Google Chrome 57.0 or greater for Macintosh systems. To check your system's version of Chrome, select Chrome in the menu bar and click About Google Chrome.


Note: The primary requirements for Chrome are that Javascript, cookies, and pop-ups are enabled.

The following settings will help you get the best performance from CengageNOWv2 while using Google Chrome for Macs. If you have problems later on, you can troubleshoot by confirming these settings.

Enabling Cookies in Google Chrome

CengageNOWv2 uses cookies to recognize you and your preferences when you sign in. Here's how to enable them in Google Chrome 59.0.

To enable cookies in Chrome
  1. 1. Click the menu button in the Chrome toolbar, to open the dropdown menu.
  2. 2. Click Settings.
  3. 3. At the bottom of the page, click Advanced.
  4. 4. Under Privacy and security, click Content settings.
  5. 5. Click Cookies.
  6. 6. In the Cookies section, make sure Allow sites to save and read cookie data (recommended) is on.
  7. 7. Also, make sure Block third party cookies and site data is off.

Enabling Pop-up Windows in Google Chrome

CengageNOWv2 uses pop-ups to display error messages and Help. Here's how to enable them in Google Chrome 59.0.

To enable pop-ups in Chrome
  1. 1. From the Chrome toolbar, click the menu button .
  2. 2. At the bottom of the page, click Advanced.
  3. 3. Under Privacy and security, click Content settings.
  4. 4. Click Popups.
  5. 5. In the Popups section, set Allowed to on.

  6. Note: There are many third-party pop-up blockers (Google, Yahoo!, etc.) available for internet browsers. If you are using any of these, consult their directions for instructions on allowing pop-ups.

Clearing the Cache and Cookies in Google Chrome

If you ever start seeing errors in CengageNOWv2, a good first troubleshooting step is to clear your Chrome browser cache and cookies. (You will need to reselect your school the next time you sign in.) Here's how to clear them in Google Chrome 59.0.

To clear the cache and cookies in Google Chrome
  1. 1. From the Chrome toolbar, click the menu button .
  2. 2. Select More Tools.
  3. 3. Click Clear Browsing Data to open the Clear browsing data box.
  4. 4. Use the menu at the top to select the amount of data you want to delete. Choose the beginning of time to delete everything.
  5. 5. Click the CLEAR BROWSING DATA button.

Enabling JavaScript in Google Chrome

CengageNOWv2 requires JavaScript for many of its functions. If the System Check reports a JavaScript failure, you may need to update your browser software. However, you may simply need to enable JavaScript in your browser before starting CengageNOWv2. Here's how to enable JavaScript in Google Chrome 59.0.

To enable JavaScript in Google Chrome
  1. 1. From the Chrome toolbar, click the menu button .
  2. 2. Click Settings.
  3. 3. At the bottom of the page, click Advanced.
  4. 4. Under Privacy and security, click Content settings.
  5. 5. Set Allowed to on in the JavaScript section.

Enabling Flash in Google Chrome

CNOWv2 strongly recommends Adobe Flash for some of its features. If the System Check reports a Flash failure, you may need to update your browser software. However, Chrome disables Flash in versions 55 or greater, so you may simply need to enable Flash in your browser before starting CNOWv2. Here's how to enable JavaScript in Google Chrome 59.0.

To enable Flash in Google Chrome
  1. 1. From the Chrome toolbar, click the menu button .
  2. 2. Click Settings.
  3. 3. At the bottom of the page, click Advanced.
  4. 4. Under Privacy and security, click Content settings.
  5. 5. Click Flash.
  6. 6. In the Flash section, turn on the option Allow sites to run Flash.
