Taking an External Assignment

Instructors can set up External assignments to track your work on a variety of activities outside of CengageNOWv2. Your instructor may provide you with a link taking you to an web site external to CNOWv2 along with an optional comment, or you can also be supplied a comment only—without an assigned link.

To take External assignments
  1. 1. Click the Assignments link in the heading to open the Assignments page.
  2. 2. If necessary, click Assignments I Can Take Now to display your available assignments.

  3. Note: Use the tools on the Assignments page to display your course assignments in the most useful way. See Using the Assignments Page for details.

  4. 3. Begin your assignment by clicking an option in the Actions column.
  5. Take. Begins your first attempt on a graded assignment.

    Practice. Starts an assignment for review that is Not Graded.

    Resume. Continues an assignment that you saved in progress. Not all assignments can be saved and resumed.

    The Assignment Ready page will open. Review this page for conditions that apply to your assignment and tips to avoid unintentionally submitting your assignment.

  6. 4. Click the Start Assignment Now button and then click Click here to begin after the page refreshes. If your instructor provided a comment, it will appear here.
  7. The assigned website opens in a new browser tab.

  8. 5. Close the external site tab when you have completed the objectives for the assignment and return to the browser tab displaying CengageNOWv2.
  9. 6. Click Submit Assignment for Grading and a Warning dialog box will open.
  10. 7. Click OK in the Warning dialog box and the Assignment Finished page will open. (Clicking Cancel allows you to return to your assignment take.)

  11. Note: Your instructor is supplied with assignment take details such as the number of times you accessed the assignment and time spent.
