Inserting a Table

You can use the Insert Table feature in the CNOWv2 Question Editor to organize information in tables in your self-authored questions. You can double click on an existing table to edit its properties.


Note: Once a table is inserted into your question, a Table tab will appear with controls for deleting, adding, and merging the elements of the table.

To create a table
  1. 1. Click the Insert Table icon to open the Insert Table editor.

  2. Note: To edit an existing table, simply double click on the table in the editing window to open the editor.

  3. 2. Click the General tab to bring it into focus, if necessary.
  4. 3. (Optional) Set the table properties on the General tab as needed:
    • ° Enter a new value for the number of table Columns and Rows. The default values are 2.
    • ° Enter a new value for the number of table Cell Padding (spacing inside the table cells) and Cell Spacing (amount of space in between the individual table cells). The default values are 5.
    • ° Enter a new value for the table Width and Height. The default values are 80.
    • ° Select the Table Alignment: center, left, or right.
    • ° Choose a Background Color using the Select a Color widget.
  5. 4. (Optional) Set the properties on the Borders tab as needed:
    • ° Select Collapse (single border) or Separate (border-spacing and empty-cell properties are preserved) as the Border collapse stye.
    • ° Select Box (the same border style on all four sides) or Individual sides (set width, style, and color properties for individual borders) for the Table borders option.
    • ° Enter a value for a Border Width.
    • ° Select a Border Stye from the dropdown menu.
    • ° Choose a Border Color using the Select a Color widget. (The Border Color is not be applied unless you also enter a value for the Border Width.)
    • The Select a Color widget allows you choose colors from a palette of preferred Colors, from a color Picker, from a Palette of full-spectrum, web safe colors, or from a selection of Named colors. Click Apply once you've made your selection.


      Note: When you mouse over a color, the Select a Color widget supplies the HTML color code at the bottom of the display.

  6. 5. (Optional) Set the properties on the Cell Properties tab as needed:
    • ° Label the Row in table part as Table Body, Table Foot, or Table Head.
    • ° Label the Cell type as Data or Header.
    • ° Enter a whole number value for the cell Width or Height.
    • ° Choose from Top, Center, or Bottom as the table's Vertical and Horizontal alignment.
    • ° Enter a whole number for the Cell Padding.
    • ° Choose a Background Color using the Select a Color widget.
    • ° Use the Apply to menu to select how to apply your settings to a variety of cell groupings or to individual cells.
  7. 6. (Optional) Set the properties on the Cell Borders tab as needed:
    • ° Select Box (the same border style on all four sides) or Individual sides (set width, style, and color properties for individual borders) for the Cell borders option.
    • ° Enter a value for a Border Width.
    • ° Select a Border Stye from the dropdown menu.
    • ° Choose a Border Color using the Select a Color widget. (The Border Color is not be applied unless you also enter a value for the Border Width.)
  8. 7. When your settings are complete, click Insert to have the table appear at your cursor's location. You can also click Cancel to exit without saving.
  9. 8. Click the global Save button at the top of the page when you are done.

  10. Note: When a pre-existing table is selected, a Table tab appears at the top of the editor. This tab provides tools to help you edit rows, columns, and cells of the table individually.
