Settings Tab
The Settings tab generally contains options unique to a specific question. These options affect how the question operates and how it is presented.
Properties on the Settings Tab
The following properties are found on the Settings tab in several types of questions. Depending on the template you are using, double clicking on an answer field opens these tabs.
AlignIn Fill in the Blank questions, you use this dropdown menu to select an alignment of left, center, or right. For this option to be enabled, Mode must be set to enhanced.
Allow Partial CreditIn Multiple Select and Multiple Choice questions, select Yes to provide partial credit in cases where some of the responses are correct. For this option to be enabled, Select must be set to Multiple.
Auto AdjustIn Fill in the Blank questions, select True to have the width of the answer field automatically adjusted based on the number of input characters.
Background ColorFor Select answer fields in Fill in the Blank questions, you can use a Select a color widget to select a color using four different methods: color, picker, palette, or named.
Background TransparencyFor Select answer fields in Fill in the Blank questions, you can use this option to select a transparency level for the selected background color.
Choice Label(s)In Multiple Choice, Multiple Select, and True False questions you can use this property to set the presentation style of the answers in your question.
Multiple Choice/Multiple Select questions allow you to display Lower-case letters, Upper-case letters, Numbers, Roman numerals, or No Labels in the selection list. The default setting is Lower-case letters.
True False questions allow you to select between True/False, T/F, true/false, TRUE/FALSE, or yes/no as the available choices. The default setting is True/False.
Correct AnswerIn True False questions, use this feature to select which answer option is correct. You can select between True (yes), False (no), or create your own Custom answer options.
ExponentialIn Fill in the Blank questions, if you set the Exponential property to True you can then enter numbers in the answer field in either E (i.e. 1.23E2) or scientific (i.e. 1.23*10^2) notation. The Exponential property is only available for Number answer fields.
Field TypeIn Fill in the Blank questions, this is an uneditable field displaying the type of answer field you are currently editing.
GroupIn Fill in the Blank questions, you can use this property to indicate the answer field is part of a group by entering a group name.
The answers for each field in the group are presented in a random order and are graded correct as a group all responses in the group must be correct to receive points. This property is available for Select, Chem, Number, and Text answer fields
HeightIn Fill in the Blank questions enter a numeric value to determine the overall height of a Select answer field. Mode must be set to enhanced to enable this property.
IconIn Fill in the Blank questions using Select answer fields, select the check box for this option to determine whether the arrow icon appears in select answer fields. The arrow icon provides a visual clue for students to expand the field to reveal the list.
Initial choiceIn Fill in the Blank questions using Select answer fields, select the text displayed to students before they choose their response.
Line-HeightIn Fill in the Blank questions you can use this field to enter a numeric value to determine the height of the answer area. This property is available for Select answer fields. The Mode must be set to enhanced to enable this property.
ModeIn Fill in the Blank questions, select either enhanced or plain text to determine the formatting of a Select answer field. Enhanced must be selected to enable the Height, Line-Height, Shuffle, and Align properties.
Random Choice OrderIn Multiple Choice questions, select this option to create a question where the order of items is randomized each time the question is accessed.
SelectIn Multiple Choice questions, you can use this option to determine whether Multiple or Single answers are allowed.
Shuffle ChoicesFor Select answer fields in Fill in the Blank questions, you can select the check box to enable shuffling of the answer fields each time the question is accessed.
Significant Figures (Sigfigs)For Number answer fields in Fill in the Blank questions, you can enter a value for the number of significant digits to display. The system rounds the value to the indicated level or adds 0s as needed.
For example, consider the equation: a=sqrt(3)
If there is no entry for significant figures (set equal to 0) and the student's response is 1.732, then the response would be considered incorrect. If significant figures is given a value of one through four, then the response would be considered to be correct. If significant figures is set to five or greater, the response would be considered incorrect again.
Significant Figures (Sigfigs) Trailing DotFor Number answer fields in Fill in the Blank questions, you can select True to allow the display of trailing dots, when appropriate. The default value is False. If the Sigfigs option is not set, trailing dots cannot be enabled.
StateFor Chem answer fields in Fill in the Blank questions, you can select from No state, All, or Partial to create answers requiring students to select the state of a substance.
The State symbols appear in a dropdown menu as part of the answer. These show the physical state of the substance at the reaction temperature. Solid (s), liquid (l), gas (g), or dissolved in water (aq).
Partial: (s), (l), (g)
All: (s), (l), (g), (aq)
No State: no selections
SizeFor Number and Text answer fields in Fill in the Blank questions, you can enter a value to determine the length of the answer field. The default value is 20.
Style(Not currently supported) For Select answer fields in Fill in the Blank questions, choose from a list of display styles you can use to change the appearance of the answer field: Classic, Blank, Right, or Journal. The Mode property must be set to enhanced for the Style option to be enabled
