Firefox Setup for Windows

CengageNOWv2 supports Firefox versions 52.0 or greater for Windows. To check your system's version of Firefox, click Help in the browser toolbar and select About Firefox.

The following settings will help you get the best performance from CengageNOWv2. If you should have any problems with CengageNOWv2 later on, begin your troubleshooting by reconfirming these settings.


Note: For use with CengageNOWv2, Firefox must be configured to enable cookies and pop-ups.

Allowing Cookies in Firefox for Windows

CengageNOWv2 uses cookies to recognize you and your preferences when you sign in. By default, cookies are enabled in Firefox. Here is how to check the settings for cookies in Firefox 54.0 for Windows.

To enable cookies in Firefox for Windows
  1. 1. Open your Firefox browser.
  2. 2. Click the Open menu icon on the Firefox menu bar.
  3. 3. Choose Options and select Privacy in the panel to the left.
  4. 4. Under History, set the Firefox will menu to Use custom settings for history.
  5. 5. Select the check box for Accept cookies from sites and choose Always for Accept cookies from sites, if they are not selected already.
  6. 6. For Keep until, select they expire.

Allowing Pop-ups in Firefox for Windows

CengageNOWv2 uses pop-up windows to display error messages and Help. Here's how to enable them in Firefox 54.0 for Windows.

To enable all pop-ups in Firefox for Windows
  1. 1. Open your Firefox browser.
  2. 2. Click the Open menu icon on the Firefox menu bar.
  3. 3. Choose Options and select Content in the panel to the left.
  4. 4. Under the Pop-ups heading, clear the check box for Block pop-up windows.

  5. Note: There are many third-party pop-up blockers (Google, Yahoo!, etc.) available for internet browsers. If you are using any of these, consult their directions for instructions on allowing pop-ups.

Configuring Page Refresh in FireFox for Windows

Your browser cache settings determine how Web pages are stored or refreshed in your system's memory. Optimal cache settings help display your CengageNOWv2 pages quickly and correctly.

To configure page refresh in Firefox for Windows
  1. 1. In the Firefox Location bar (address line), type about:config and press the Enter key.
  2. 2. Click I accept the risk! on the This might void your warranty! screen.
  3. A list of preferences will appear in your browser window.

  4. 3. In the Search input field that appears at the top of the page, type browser.cache and press the Enter key. This will limit the list of preferences.
  5. 4. Double-click browser.cache.check_doc_frequency in the Preference Name list.
  6. The Enter integer value window appears.

  7. 5. Type 1 in the input box for browser.cache.check_doc_frequency.
  8. 6. Click OK and close the about:config tab on Firefox.

Clearing the Cache and Cookies in Firefox for Windows

If you ever start seeing errors in CengageNOWv2, a good first troubleshooting step is to clear your Firefox browser cache and cookies. (You will need to reselect your school the next time you sign in.)

To clear Firefox cookies and cache
  1. 1. Open your Firefox browser.
  2. 2. Click the Open menu icon on the Firefox menu bar.
  3. 3. Choose Options.
  4. 4. Select the Advanced icon on the menu to the left.
  5. 5. Select the Network tab.
  6. 6. Next to the Cached Web Content heading, click Clear Now.
