Exporting a Course Gradebook

The Export Course Gradebook link in the Report Creator pane allows you to create a file containing all the data from the current Gradebook overview page. Information is organized automatically so that students are sorted alphabetically by their last name. Once you your selections are made, you can save the file to your computer for editing in a text editor or spreadsheet application.

To Export a Course Gradebook
  1. 1. If necessary, click the Gradebook link in the heading to open the Gradebook page.
  2. 2. Confirm that you have the correct selection in the Select a Course or Section dropdown menu.
  3. 3. (Optional) Open the Columns menu (gear icon) to reveal the links.
  4. 4. Click the Edit Assignment Filters link to select or deselect the assignment types you want included when exporting either a Microsoft Excel or Text Editor file. See Filtering Assignments for details.
  5. 5. Click the Report menu (graph icon) to reveal the links.
  6. 6. Click the Export Course Gradebook link to open the Export Course Gradebook dialog box.
  7. 7. From the Format to Export: dropdown menu, select the appropriate file format (Excel spreadsheet or text editor compatible).
  8. 8. Under the Assignments heading, select from the options to Include all assignments or Include only filtered assignments (see step #3).
  9. 9. Under the Students heading, select from the options to Include students in this course or Include students in this course and all sections. (This option appears only when sections are present in the course.)
  10. 10. Click Export and the File Download dialog box opens.
  11. 11. Depending on your system, click Save and choose a location on your computer to save the file (or select Open to view the file in an application).

  12. Note: The default naming convention for the downloaded file is "gradebook_export_yyyy-MM-dd-hh-mm-ss." Where yyyy is the current year, MM is the current month, dd is the current date, hh is the current hour, mm is the current minute, and ss is the current second.

  13. 12. Rename the file (Optional) and specify a location on your computer.
  14. 13. Click Save when you are done
