Editing Scores in Homework and Test Assignments

For Homework and Test assignments, the lower half of the Edit Grade Details page allows you to edit the results of individual items or the entire assignment. To access these fields for editing, there must be a student Take for you to review.

Note: ASP assignments provide details for individual questions for the Pre-Test are displayed, and View Progress details are viewed in this section, but not edited. External and ASP assignments allow you to edit the overall assignment score only. For more details see Editing Scores in External and ASP Assignments.

The lower section of the Edit Grade Details page displays the following controls when either a Homework or Test assignment is selected.

Take Structure

Allows you to select either individual items or the entire assignment for viewing and editing the score. A red pencil icon indicates a score that requires editing, while a green pencil indicates an edited score. An alert icon appears if manually graded items require your attention.

Note: Assignments and individual items that are In Progress will display a score of '0' in the Take Structure column, even when students have used Check My Work during their take.

Selected Item Attempt Preview

Displays a full preview of the item content and student responses for the selection you made in the Take Structure pane.

Preview In Window

Click this button to see a full screen view of the selected Homework or Test question in a new browser window. This view also allows you to navigate through all the assignment's questions. The preview window will remain open until you close it manually or navigate elsewhere from the Edit Grade Details page.

Large Preview

Click this button to see an expanded view of the selected Homework or Test question. Click Small Preview to return to the original view.

Calculator

Selected Item Grade Details

Use the controls in this pane to manage scores for your selection in the Take Structure pane. Your edits can be made at either the item or assignment level. (Items with Full Credit applied have this option disabled.)

Full Credit

(Homework and Test assignments only) If an item in one of your assignments is flawed or otherwise unsuitable, this feature allows you to fix the situation by giving full credit to all students across your course and associated sections. This action effectively negates the unwanted item in all past, current, and future instances of this assignment.

Note: The Comments field will display the status of any Full Credit changes. These messages appear on both your Edit Grade Details page and your students' View Assignment Results page.

Give Full Credit

Use the Give Full Credit button to apply the full point value of the selected question to the score of all students in your course. This action also disables the options in the Selected Item Grade Details pane. As your request is being processed, a progress icon appears and becomes static once the update is complete.

Note: When full credit is activated at the course level, you can select a check box to apply points to students enrolled in all related sections. If activated at the section level, full credit is given only to the students in that section.

Remove Full Credit

After full credit is applied, a Remove Full Credit button becomes available. Clicking this button subtracts the full credit points for the selected question from the score of all students in your course and/or sections and restores any previously earned grades. Select the checkbox if you wish to apply the changes to sections associated with the course. A progress icon indicates your request is being processed; this icon disappears once the update is complete.

Comment

Use this field to enter a note tracking your changes. The comment is also visible from the Notes column of your Student Grade Details page, and the Notes column in your student's Grades and Assignments pages.

Comments

This field automatically tracks score editing activity, including Full Credit changes. In addition to being available on your Edit Grade Details page, these entries are also visible to students in the Comments column of their View Assignment Results page.

With the exception of Full Credit entries, comments can be removed by clicking the "X" icon.
