Using Class Aggregate Reports

The Class Aggregate Analytics supply an overview of the performance for your entire class. From the initial Assignments Summary report you can choose to create a series of reports, which serve as useful tools for viewing different aspects of student performance in your class.

Depending on your selections, you can create reports based on data from an assignment, questions from a particular assignment, all qualifying questions in the course, questions from a particular content category, or see the content from an individual question.

Creating the Class Aggregate > Assignments Summary

The Assignments Summary provides an overview of the performance on all the assignment in your course. This is the report that initially opens upon clicking the Gradebook Analytics link in the Reports menu (graph icon). From this page you can use links in the table or the Choose your report menu to create additional reports on questions from an assignment or questions tagged as fulfilling the requirements for a specific concept.

To generate a Class Aggregate > Assignments Summary report
  1. 1. Click the Gradebook link in the header to open the Gradebook page.
  2. 2. If necessary, make the appropriate selection from the Select a Course or Section dropdown menu.
  3. 3. Click the Reports icon to expand the menu and select the Gradebook Analytics link.
  4. The report opens to display a table displaying the following information:

    • ° Assignment. Displays the names of the qualifying assignments in your course as they appear on your Gradebook and Assignments pages.
    • ° Due Date. Displays the date and time the assignment is due for full credit.
    • ° Class Average for Submitted Questions. Displays the class average score as a percentage for students in the course with a qualifying assignment submission.
    • ° # of Students Completed. Displays the number of students with a qualifying assignment/total number of students in the course (for example, 35/40).

    • Note: Clicking a column header arranges the table by that column in either ascending or descending order. The Assignment column is the default sorting category, and the default sort order is ascending alpha.

  5. 4. (Optional) Use the Score Distribution bar graph to display results from a specific range of scores.
  6. This graph provides a visual representation of the score information for the class divided into 4 ranges (below 70%, 70%-79.99%, 80%-89.99%, and 90% or above). By altering the active bars in the graph you can filter the report to show only results from a specific range of scores.

    • ° Click a bar in the graph to remove that range of scores from the table.
    • ° Click the bar again to restore the data to the table.
    • ° Clicking a grade range label in the color-key also removes or restores that range of scores.

    • Note: For reports with more than 10 rows, use the navigation tools at the bottom of the table to see any additional pages.

  7. 5. (Optional) Click the Export Report button to download a spreadsheet file (.xlsx) of the course aggregate report.
  8. 6. (Optional) Make a selection from the Choose your report menu to create a new report with data from all the qualifying Questions in your course or items tagged with a specific taxonomy or learning objective (the available options in the menu can vary). See Using the Class Aggregate > Choose Your Report Menu for more details.
  9. 7. (Optional) Click a name in the Assignment column to open a Questions Summary report with results for the items from that assignment only or select Questions in the Choose your report menu to see results for all items in qualifying assignments).   10. 8. Return to the Gradebook overview page by clicking the Gradebook link in the header or create a new report by making a selection from the Choose your report menu

Using the Class Aggregate > Choose Your Report Menu

When you are initially viewing a Class Aggregate Assignments Summary report, expanding the Choose your report menu reveals additional options for filtering content and generating new reports of more granular data. In addition to selecting to see data from all questions from qualifying assignments, you can also choose from the available taxonomies, standards, and objectives represented in the course content.


Note: When working with the more granular report types, this menu also supplies a "breadcrumb" list of links that allow you to return to a previous report and see how you arrived at the current page.

The potential options in the Choose your report menu are listed below. You may not see all options in your report, as the choices in the list depend on the content available in the qualifying assignments.

Assignments

Selecting Assignments in the Choose your report menu or clicking the Assignments breadcrumb link returns you to the default Assignments Summary report. The Assignments Summary displays a table with information on all qualifying assignments in your course.

Questions

Selecting Questions in the Choose your report menu or clicking the question name breadcrumb link opens a Questions Summary report with details on items from all qualifying assignments in your course and allows you to compare your class performance to global results on the same material.

ACBSP-APC Standards

Selecting this option in the Choose your report menu opens a report with result details on assignment content tagged for ACBSP-APC standards.

These standards indicate items addressing learning standards necessary to gain ACBSP accreditation (Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs). Up to 30 topics can be listed, from Corporate Investment Accounting to Recording Transactions.

This report supplies the following information and options:

AICPA Standards

Selecting this option in the Choose your report menu opens a report with result details on assignment content tagged for specific AICPA standards. These are standards are set by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) to achieve basic objectives and implement fundamental concepts.

This report supplies the following information and options:

Bloom's Cognitive Taxonomy

Selecting this option in the Choose your report menu opens a report with result details on assignment content meeting a Bloom's taxonomy.

Bloom's is used to classify educational learning objectives into levels of complexity and specificity, covering learning objectives in cognitive, affective, and sensory domains.

This report supplies the following information and options:

BUSPROG Standards

Selecting this option in the Choose your report menu opens a report with result details on assignment content tagged for specific BUSPROG standards. This category selects book content tagged for outcomes suggested by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and other discipline-specific program outcomes. Because this tag applies to more than just AACSB, the "BUSPROG" (Business Program) abbreviation is used.

This report supplies the following information and options:

IMA Taxonomy

Selecting this option in the Choose your report menu opens a report with result details on assignment content tagged for IMA Taxonomy (Institute of Management Accounting) learning standards. This selection filters for content addressing learning standards necessary to gain IMA (Institute of Management Accounting) accreditation for Managerial Accounting products

Selecting this option in the Choose your report menu opens a report with result details on assignment content tagged for HED LO key concepts in your course materials.

Creating the Class Aggregate > Questions Summary

The Questions Summary report supplies information on item performance for the class from qualifying course content. This allows you to compare class performance to global results on the same course material. For additional information, see Using Gradebook Analytics Reports.

When generating this report, you have the option to choose from three types of data sets: questions in the course, questions in an assignment, and questions in a concept report created from the Choose your report menu.

To generate a Class Aggregate Questions Summary report
  1. 1. Click the Gradebook link in the header to open the Gradebook page.
  2. 2. If necessary, make the appropriate selection from the Select a Course or Section menu.
  3. 3. Click the Reports menu (graph icon) to reveal the links.
  4. 4. Select the Gradebook Analytics link to open the Assignments Summary report for the course.
  5. 5. Choose a method to create one of the three types of Questions Summary reports:
    • ° Items from a Single Assignment. Click an assignment name in the Assignment column.
    • ° Items Associated with a Concept. Select any concept title listed in the Choose your report menu, then click a label in the resulting report.
    • ° All Qualifying Items. Select Questions from the Choose your report menu.
  6. 6. The following information appears in your report:
    • ° Question. Displays the question name as it appears when you add content from the assignment creation wizard.
    • ° Score %. Displays the average score as a percentage from take of record from qualifying assignments. This information is provided for your Class results (for this particular assignment) and for Global usage results (for any assignment containing the question).

    • Note: For assignments allowing multiple takes, the take of record is influenced by your selection of Best Score or Last Score in the assignment option for Grading.

    • ° # of Graded Attempts. Displays the number of qualifying assignment takes for this assignment in your Class and for any assignment that contains the question in the Global population (does not count multiple takes through the use of Check My Work).
    • The information in this column is only for a single score for a student + assignment combination. For instance, Homework assignments can allow multiple takes of the same assignment, but only the take counting towards the score is used in the # of Graded Attempts data.


      Note: Clicking a column header arranges the table by that column in either ascending or descending order. The Question column is the default sorting category, and the default sort order is ascending alpha.

  7. 7. Click the Show More link to see the following additional columns:
    • ° Avg. Time Per Attempt (h:min). Displays the average time needed to complete the question take of record based on results from your Course and for any assignment that contains the question in the Global population. Results from qualifying assignments are aggregated, averaged, and rounded to the nearest whole minute (does not factor in the time spent on ungraded Check My Work attempts).
    • ° Avg. # of Attempts. Displays the average number of attempts for the question take of record based on Course results (does not count multiple takes through the use of Check My Work).
    • ° Bloom's Taxonomy. Displays any Bloom's taxonomy concepts associated with items in the assignment. Clicking on a taxonomy label opens a new report displaying data on items meeting the Bloom's criteria.
    • ° Appears in Assignment(s) (In This Course). Displays the names of assignments containing this question. Clicking a linked assignment name in this column opens its Questions Summary report.

    • Note: For reports with more than 10 rows, use the navigation tools at the bottom of the table to see any additional pages.

  8. 8. Click Show Less to return to the original report format.
    1. 9. (Optional) Use the Score Distribution bar graph to display results from a specific range of scores.
    2. This graph provides a visual representation of the score information for the class divided into 4 ranges (below 70%, 70%-79.99%, 80%-89.99%, and 90% or above). By altering the active bars in the graph you can filter the report to show only results from a specific range of scores.

    3. ° Click a bar in the graph to remove that range of scores from the table.
    4. ° Click the bar again to restore the data to the table.

  9. 10. (Optional) Click the Export Report button to download a spreadsheet file (.xlsx) of the aggregate course report.
  10. 11. (Optional) Click a question name in the Question column to open an Item Preview where you can see the content for that specific item.
  11. 12. Use the Choose your report menu to return to a previous report or select another report to view.

Creating the Class Aggregate > Item Preview

The Item Preview report opens when you click a question name in a Questions Summary report or a concept report created from the Choose your report menu. For additional information, see Using Gradebook Analytics Reports.

From the Item Preview you can view question content, including feedback, resources, and controls that appear for your students during a take. This report also supplies a Score Distribution histogram displaying groupings for the number of takes/scores in increments of a 10th of a percent.


Note: Individual items in reports may display no data available for items in a qualifying assignment, if the student did not submit their response or was unable to respond due to changes in the assignment's content.

To generate a Class Aggregate Item Preview report
  1. 1. Click the Gradebook link in the header to open the Gradebook page.
  2. 2. If necessary, make the appropriate selection from the Select a Course or Section menu.
  3. 3. Click the Reports menu (graph icon) to reveal the links.
  4. 4. Select the Gradebook Analytics link to open the Assignments Summary report.
  5. 5. Generate a list of items to choose from by creating one of three Questions Summary reports:
    • ° Items in Single Assignment. Click an assignment name on the Assignments Summary report to open its Questions Summary report. You can then click a question name to open an Item Preview.
    • ° All Items. Select Questions from the Choose your report menu to see a Questions Summary report with all qualifying items in the course. You can then click a question name to open an Item Preview.
    • ° Items Associated with a Concept. Select any concept listed in the Choose your report menu, then click a label in the resulting report to create a Questions Summary report. You can then click a question name to open an Item Preview.
  6. 6. Select an item and depending on the question type, you can interact with it as a student would during a take: submit a response, review question content, see the appropriate feedback, and access resources.

    This report also supplies a Score Distribution histogram, which displays the distribution of takes/scores for your class.

  7. Note: Some questions may allow you to view, but not interact with the content.

  8. 7. The following data is displayed in the Item Information table.
    • ° Score %. Displays the item's average score as a percentage from take of record from qualifying assignments. This information is provided for your Class results (for this particular assignment) and for Global usage results (for any assignment containing the question
    • ° # of Graded Attempts. Displays the number of qualifying takes for this item in your Class and for any assignment that contains the question in the Global population (does not count multiple takes through the use of Check My Work).
    • ° Avg. Time Per Attempt (h:min). Displays the average time needed to complete the item's take of record based on results from your Class and for any assignment that contains the question in the Global population. Results from qualifying assignments are aggregated, averaged, and rounded to the nearest whole minute (does not factor in the time spent on ungraded Check My Work attempts).
    • ° Avg. # of Attempts. Displays the average number of attempts for the question take of record based on Class results. This information does not include use of Check My Work.
    • ° Appears in: (Activities, Blooms, Objectives, etc.). Displays the areas in your course where this item can be found. Click a linked name in this row to open an associated report.
  9. 8. (Optional) Click the Export Report button to download a spreadsheet file (.xlsx) of the aggregate course report.
