The Assignment Details Page

The Assignment Details page displays all student scores and details for a single assignment for you to review. Click Edit All Scores on This Page to turn on the score editing mode (click Show All Options if necessary), you can then edit scores or apply custom penalties at the assignment level for any of the students in your course. Updates you make on the Assignment Details page are automatically reflected throughout CNOWv2.

You can use sorting options to modify your view of the assignments: click on any column header to re-sort by that column, click the heading a second time to reverse the order. You can also click an active score link to go to the Edit Grade Details page where you can view responses and edit scores for individual questions. See Editing Grade Details for more details.

To access the Assignment Details page
  1. 1. Go to the Gradebook page and make a selection from the Select a Course or Section dropdown menu, if necessary.
  2. 2. Click the name of the assignment where it appears in the table header to open the Assignment Details page.

  3. Note: To go to the Student Grade Details page, you can click a student's name on the Gradebook page. See The Student Grade Details Page for more details.

Basic Assignment Details page options
Select a report to create...

From this dropdown menu you can open Custom Report page and apply various filters to create a customized report generated with data such as assignment scores, assignment takes, time spent, student participation, etc. For instructions, see Using Custom Reports.

Gradebook Analytics

Use the CengageNOWv2 Gradebook Analytics link as a quick way to generate and view summaries of score information, response statistics, and review content in individual questions. For instructions and descriptions of the report types, see Using Gradebook Analytics Reports.

Export Course Gradebook

Click the Export Course Gradebook link to open a window where you can select from a variety of file formats for export into other platforms or applications. For instructions, see Exporting a Course Gradebook.

In Course/Section

Use this dropdown menu to select a different course to view.

Name

Use the dropdown menu to choose a different assignment to view.

Category

Displays the name of the custom grading category in which the assignment is placed (if any). If the assignment is not categorized it is labeled Default.

Change Category

Click this link to go to the Edit Grading Categories page. From this page you can create, assign, and edit your custom categories. See Creating and Editing Custom Grading Categories for more details.

Possible Score

Displays the total score allowed for the selected assignment.

Due Date

Displays the date and time when the assignment is due.

Past Due

Displays the penalty applied to assignments submitted after the due date.

Example: "penalty":0.15,"secondaryPenalty":0.1,"applyPenalty":"week" indicates there is a 15% initial penalty, followed by a subsequent penalty that is added at 10% per week. Subsequent penalties can be added by the hour, day, or week.

Enter student

To find information for a specific student, enter that student's name or a few letters of their name in the Enter student field and click Find. This automatically limits the Assignment Details page to your search criteria. To return to the full list of students, click the show all students link.

Go Back to the Gradebook

Clicking this button returns you to the Gradebook overview page.

Assignment Details table

The following information is available in the table on the lower half of the Assignment Details page.

Student

Displays the name of the student for the information in that row.

CengageNOWv2 ID

Displays the log-in name /email address used for the student account.

Course Grade

Displays the student's overall course grade as a percentage.

Assignment Score

Displays the student's current score and the total score possible for the assignment in points. Clicking a score will open the Edit Grade Details page. See Editing Grade Details for more information.

Custom Penalty

Displays the applied penalty as a percentage (if any). You can create or edit the penalty when the Edit All Scores on This Page link is clicked.

# of Attempts

Displays the number of times the student has taken the assignment.

Time Spent

Displays the time spent on the student's most recent take.

Gradability

Displays if the assignment is composed of items graded electronically, manually, or a mixed selection of both electronic and manual.

Your Evaluation

Displays the date of your most recent edits.

Status Icons

At the bottom of the page is an icon key that provides a legend for the status icons that might appear for assignments or students with special conditions

Advanced Assignment Details page options
Show All Options/Hide All Options

Click Show All Options/Hide All Options to toggle whether the page is expanded to display the following advanced controls.

Student Actions

Use this dropdown menu to select from actions such as emailing students, adjusting scores, customizing options for students, or querying student data.

Edit All Scores on This Page/Exit Score Editing Mode

Use these links to toggle the score editing options for the Assignment Details page off or on. These options allow you to edit the student's overall score for the assignment or include a custom penalty as a percentage.

Clicking Edit All Scores on the Page will also display the buttons to Save and Return, Save Changes and Continue Editing, and Return Without Saving; which allow you to manage edits you make on this page.
