Using an External Gradebook Column
You can create an External Gradebook Column to serve as a "place holder" for assignments that your students take offline. In this way, you can reserve a place in your Gradebook to manually enter points for paper assignments or external projects that otherwise would not be included in your students' CengageNOWv2 course score.
Once the results for the offline assignment can be determined, you can enter the grades manually. The grade for the assignment is calculated in the CengageNOWv2 course score along with the electronically graded CengageNOWv2 assignments. Your students can see information for the assignment from their Assignments and Grades pages.
To create an External Gradebook Column
- 1. From your Gradebook page, use the Select a Course or Section dropdown menu to select the course for your external column.
- 2. Open the Create menu (pencil icon) and select the Create External Gradebook Column link to open the dialog box.
- 3. Enter the appropriate information for the Assignment Name, Possible Score, and Student Note.
- 4. Click Create and the Gradebook will refresh, showing your new assignment column (or you can click the "X" in the upper-right corner to exit without saving).
Note: Your Student Note appears as a pop-up comment on the student Assignments page. Please keep your message to less than 60 characters.
Your Gradebook page will refresh and a corresponding column will also appear in your Assignments page.
Note: To indicate the assignment is not taken in CengageNOWv2, its name is appended with "(External to this web site)."
As the offline assignment is completed, you can enter the grades for individual students. You can also have the option to place the assignment into a custom grading category.
Your students can also see details for offline assignments from their CengageNOWv2 Grades and Assignments pages. Information for the Due Date, Date & Time Submitted, # of Submissions, and Time Spent/Allowed is not available.
